Can I Convert my Sole Proprietorship to an Yes! Even if you've been a sole proprietorship for years, you will still benefit from converting your company to an LLC or incorporating your company. Converting will not protect you against events and/or lawsuits that occurred prior to conversion to an LLC or corporation, but conversion will protect you from events that occur after forming the new LLC or Corporation. In Washington, there is no "Certificate of Conversion." Here you must file the regular "Certificate of Formation" to create your new LLC (so that you have something to convert the Sole Proprietorship to). You will have to transfer all identification numbers, licenses, and permits to the name of your new LLC and you will need a new federal employer identification number and a new Washington State UBI number. Call or email our office today for a free consultation with a corporate attorney with over ten years experience on forming LLCs and Corporations. Back to the Main Corporations / LLC FAQs page
